Well Griff and his mate Matt arrived on Friday Night at about 9pm as I had been expecting them I already had some beers in the fridge and a fire going out the back so we could sit around and have some beers ( thanks to my next door neighbor's who went away for 6 months last week which allowed me to jump the fence and BORROW some fire wood, cant say I know when I will pay it back since I have no open fire!!.).
Well we sat out the back talking by the fire till about 1am at that stage we thought we better hit the hay as Adam was expected to arrive at about 8am to pick us up and head to Chains Bridge. Rebecca would wander in and out to see us and check up on what was going on.
As usual I was the first one to rise at about 6.50am and had a shower started to get ready woke the men up and proceeded tp check I had all that was required for a night in the hills, Adam arrived at about 8.15am and we packed Griff's ute up and Adams VW kombi and headed to Chains Bridge via Heyfield so we could pick up some worms.
We arrived at Chains Bridge at about 9.45am picked our camping spot set up the kombi, the tent unpacked our chairs and we were set. Matt and Griff where hungry so we cooked some sausage's up for breakfast and started to rig up the fishing lines ( no one held out much hope of catching anything and it was not really about the fishing it was just away to fill in time until we cracked some cans and started the fire).
We headed down river at about lunch time to cast a line or 2 and since there was 4 of us and only 3 fishing rods Matt had enough hands to bring the esky with some cans in it. So we perched ourselves on the bank had a can and casted the lines into the river. After about 2 hours of catching no fish and not even getting a bite ( no fishing stories turned into legends coming from this trip) I decided to wind my line in and low and behold I had caught something I had a yabbie hanging on the end of my line which would be the only thing we caught for the trip even though we pretty much did not fish again after this point.
After the fishing highlight we headed back to camp as we had run out of beers ( alcohol count as of start of the day 12 cans of Real McCoy Bourbon, 2 bottles of White Wine, 1x 375ml bottle of jack Daniels, 13 boags draught stubbies, 10 cans of Johnny Walker scotch and coke, Ix750ml bottle of ballentines Scotch and 6 stubbies of tooheys Pills beer). Griff had bought his botchie set with him so we played it for a hour or so final score Mark 10 Matt 5 Damian and Adam 4 a piece.
The sun started to go down behind the mountains at about 4.30pm so we decide it was time to light the fire Adam was worried we would not have enough fire wood so we went on a bit of a mission scouting the bush for some fire wood ( we bought some fire wood with us). We got the fire going and pulled up a chair.
From there we started drinking and before no time we were cooking Dinner just basics steak, sausages, hamburgers along with some potatoes cooked in tin foil on the coles of the fire, it was all very good food and meat always tastes better when bbq I think. From there on the night seemed to slide by or turn into a blur but a lot of talking about everything from politics, work, sport and of course women.
I turned in at about 1am I think followed by Matt, damian and Adam stayed up talking and Arguing till about 4 am. Got no idea what time it was when I got up but it was daylight so I am assuming its about 7.30am and the fire was still smoking but only 3 bits of fire wood left to cook breakfast with I had to go searching for wood, which was good as it filled in time for 2 hours or so while everyone was still asleep.
Matt was next up and then we decide to wake Adam and Griff up as Matt was keen to cook some breakfast. Matt and Damian ( damian and griff same person) cooked up some eggs, bacon and hash browns while I has some steak. Griff had been going about this damper he was going to cook well the first 2 bits ended up in the fire and Adam cooked abit that worked.
We packed up and headed home at about 12.15 stopping at Adams moms house at Glenmaggie for a cigarette ( we were all out) and arriving back in Maffra at about 2 pm, Glad to be home I like the comforts of my own home way better than those of my tent and the Australian bush.
